What is the procedure for dental implants? Are dental implants safe?
The procedure for dental implants at Pacific Family Dental involves a few key steps, starting with a thorough evaluation to assess your oral health. If you’re a good candidate, a titanium implant is surgically placed into the jawbone, where it integrates over several months. Once healed, an abutment is added, and a custom-made crown is attached to mimic your natural teeth.
Dental implants are highly safe, made from biocompatible materials that are well-tolerated by the body. They offer a durable and stable solution for tooth loss, with a high success rate. At Pacific Family Dental, our skilled implant dentists utilize advanced techniques to ensure optimal safety and lasting results.

What types of dental implants exist?
There are several types of dental implants available, each designed to cater to different needs and situations. Here are the most common types:
- Endosteal Implants: These are the most commonly used types of dental implants. They are placed directly into the jawbone and are typically made of titanium. Once the surrounding bone has healed and fused to the implant, a second surgery is needed to connect a post to the original implant, upon which an artificial tooth (or teeth) can be mounted.
- Subperiosteal Implants: These implants are placed on top of the jawbone but underneath the gum tissue. Subperiosteal implants are used primarily for patients who do not have enough healthy natural jawbone and cannot, or do not want to undergo a bone augmentation procedure to rebuild it.
- All-on-4®: This technique uses four implants per arch, strategically placed to take advantage of the densest areas of bone. It is particularly beneficial for patients who have lost a significant amount of bone but do not want to undergo bone grafts. This method allows for the immediate fitting of replacement teeth soon after implants are placed.
